2.10.19~Passion For Worship
Passion: (noun); Strong and barely controllable emotion
I love the definition of the word Passion. I think everyone has a passion about something in life. Whether it be passion for a career, subject, or event, everyone is passionate about something. You may not realize what you're passionate about, but I'm sure that somewhere deep down inside, you have a passion for something, even if it's something small.
People often ask me what my "post-high school" plans are. The short answer would be go to college and get a degree. The long answer is go to college and get a degree in nursing, with a minor in music. Seems average, right? Well, there is so very much behind the story of just "minoring in music."
Music and worship are my passion. I have always loved music, but it wasn't until I was about six or seven that I began to love singing and being involved in music. So as my love for music continued to grow, I slowly began to understand the Biblical importance behind music. Music in the Bible is more than just music. It is worship, more often than not. I am thankful that I grew up in a home where musical worship was important and taught to us since we were little. My dad has always loved singing and my mom played instruments growing up, so my parents we're always singing and playing music in the car! I just grew to love it!
When I was thirteen years old, I had honestly kind of began to think about what I wanted to do after high school, even though I wasn't even in high school. It wasn't anywhere along the music lines though. Until March of 2015...I was performing a recital from my piano lessons and one thing the school of worship I was taking from always emphasized was that it is always "praise over performance." I can remember singing the song Set A Fire, and playing the piano along with it, and all I can remember is just one-hundred percent zoning out like it was just me and Jesus. I can so so so vividly remember hearing God just whisper to my heart, "You've been called out. You're gonna lead worship." It was the craziest feeling in the world, but also one of the only times in my life that I had complete peace in a situation...a situation I would naturally be super nervous in.
From that moment on, I didn't even give that calling a second question. I was so ready to dive into all that God had planned. Music and worship was something that I was comfortable in, so I just dove straight into it. God's timing was a little slower than I originally anticipated.
I automatically assumed that by worship leader, that God meant "music leader." I was so wrong. God began to slowly build my passion for music. He began to place me in situations so that I truly understood what worship was and what it meant. God started to show me that being a worship leader wasn't all about being in charge of a worship band or a congregation at a church. Leading worship is so much more than being in charge of music. I began to develop a passion for worshipping through music, and leading worship through music, more than being in charge of things. I found the atmosphere that worshipping through music brings is one of peace, healing, restoration, love, and the list goes on.
Even in the Bible, worship CHANGED things. When Paul and Silas got thrown into prison, they began to sing hymns to God, and things CHANGED. The word changed is a huge understatement for the situation! The ground began to shake, shackles broke and fell, and the prison doors were open! Worship changes things! I cannot stress that enough! Worship is my passion and that will never change!
love always,
Izzy💛💛
