3.5.19~Untainted Worship(Youth Sunday Lesson)

This Sunday, February 24, was scheduled to be our Youth Sunday at church! A lot of us were involved in it, and we were nervous, but also excited!! Unfortunately, the flood waters of East TN stopped that plan. It has been moved to next Sunday but I volunteered to teach the "Young Married Couples" class for Sunday School. "Young Married Couples" is the majority of the youth student's parents. It's the class that everyone gets scared to teach, simply because it is our parents. We feel like they are very rich in Biblical knowledge, so we tend to feel like what we have to say is not going to be important or new to them. As that thought continued to roll over my brain, God very sternly spoke to me and said, "Izzy, if I am leading you to teach them and I am giving you the words to speak, I will move and change hearts as I see fit." Therefore, I shut up about being scared and decided to let Him handle it.
I've been doing the Bible plan, "Untainted Worship," by Sheldon Bengara, on my Bible app. It has been really good and I've truly learned a lot reading it everyday! I felt like God had laid it on my heart to use what I had learned and studied in it, for my lesson.
I decided to share it on here, as well! I hope you learn something from it and enjoy it! God is so amazing in the way He teaches us things!!!

The word untainted is an adjective. It means "not contaminated, polluted, or tainted." There when our worship is untainted,  it is not polluted with sin, our own wants and preferences, or anything else that would make it anything but true, pure worship to God.

Day 1 of "Untainted Worship," talked about being face down before the Lord. The position of being face down in worship isn't always a physical position. It is also a position of heart and mind. Being face down is a sign of reverent submission to Christ and His kingdom, as well as a sign of surrender and helplessness.

"Worship changes the worshiper into the image of the One being worshiped." -Jack Hayford

Joshua 5:13-14~ "And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, 'Are You for us or for our adversaries?' So He said, 'No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.' And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, 'What does my Lord say to His servant?'"

Hebrews 12:28-29~ "Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire."

Day 2 of "Untainted Worship," talks about how God is holy. He is completely holy and therefore requires holy and pure worship.
Holy is an adjective that means, "dedicated or consecrated to God or a religious purpose; sacred; morally or spiritually excellent." ...Spiritually excellent...I can't think of a better way to describe Christ. Those two words just bring this picture of absolute holiness and purity to my mind.

"Holy is the way God is. To be holy, He does not conform to a standard. He is that standard. He is absolutely holy with an infinite, incomprehensible fullness of purity that is incapable of being other than it is. Because He is holy, all His attributes are holy; that is whatever we think of as belonging to God must be thought of as holy." -A.W. Tozer

"A holy life will make the deepest impression. Lighthouses blow no horns, they just shine." -D.L. Moody

1 Peter 1:15-16~ "But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, 'Be holy, for I am holy.'"

Day 3 talks about worshipping with your life. Not just your music or just your prayers, but with your whole life. "It is not the song that is important to God. The song is an expression of life." The life of a true worshiper is the same in public and private because they understand that they are always in the presence of an all seeing and all knowing God.
True worship is being in constant evaluation of yourself in the light of scripture; being careful with your words, thoughts, and actions; living every moment to the glory of God.

Romans 12:1-3~ "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God as dealt to each one a measure of faith."

Romans 6:4~ "Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."

Day 4 is worshipping with sacrifice. Jesus is the sacrifice for everything and apart from Jesus, no one can bring anything to please God. The biggest thing you can sacrifice to God, is your life. (Romans 12:1) When's God's fire consumes the sacrifices in the Bible, and even in our lives today, the result of what remains is a pure, consecrated offering to the Lord.

Psalm 27:1-14~ "The Lord is my light and my salvation--whom should I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life-- of whom should I be afraid? When evildoers came against me to devour my flesh, my foes and my enemies stumbled and fell. Though an army deploys against me, my heart is not afraid; though a war breaks out against me, still I am confident. I have asked one thing from the Lord; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the Lord and seeking Him in His temple. For He will conceal me in His shelter in the day of adversity; He will hide me under the cover of His tent; He will set me high on a rock. Then my head will be high above my enemies around me; I will offer sacrifices in His tent with shouts of joy. I will sing and make music to the Lord. Lord, hear my voice when I call; be gracious to me and answer me. My heart says this about You, 'You are to see My face.' Lord I will seek your face. Do not hide Your face from me; do not turn away in anger. You have been my helper; do not leave me or abandon me, God of my salvation. Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord cares for me. Because of my adversaries, show me Your way, Lord, and lead me on a level path. Do not give me over to the will of my foes, for false witnesses rise up up against me, breathing violence. I am certain that I will see the Lord's goodness in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and courageous. Wait for the Lord."

Psalm 54:6~ "I will sacrifice a freewill offering to You. I will praise Your name, Yahweh, because it is good."

1 Kings 18:38-39~ "Then Yahweh's fire fell and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench. When all the people saw it, they fell face down and said, 'Yahweh, He is God! Yahweh, He is God.'"

Proverbs 15:8~ "The sacrifice of the wicked is detestable to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is His delight."

Day 5 of "Untainted Worship," is about being able to worship in your life, through obedience.
Obedience is the outward sign of the truth that we love Christ (John 14:15). It is also the only sign that we belong to Him.--Inward faith manifests itself through outward obedience.

"The man that believes will obey; failure to obey is convincing proof that there is no true faith present. To attempt the impossible, God must give faith or there will be none, and He gives faith to the obedient heart only." -A.W. Tozer

Hebrews 5:8~ "Though He was God's Son, He learned obedience through what He suffered."

Acts 5:29~ "But Peter and the apostles said, 'We must obey God rather than men.'"

Romans 6:16~ "Don't you know that if you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of that one you obey--either of sin leading to death or obedience leading to righteousness?"

Hebrews 11:6~ "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."

Day 6 began to talk about worshipping through submission. Being submissive is an extremely hard concept in general, let alone when it comes down to being submissive and obedient to Christ, through worship. Submission is a state of total helplessness and inability to even mover or do anything without God. The gateway to submission is through surrender. Surrender is a daily activity that we have to chose to do, and so is submission, but submission is a NOW activity. We exist simply and only to fulfill and exucute the mission of Jesus, and that is to "Be disciples, make disciples." Mary was the perfect example of immediate submission to God. As soon as the Lord told her that she was going to be the mother of the Messiah, she instantly said agreed and submitted.

"Lord, whatever you want, wherever you want it, and whenever you want it, that's what I want."
-Richard Baxter

Psalm 81:11-12~ "But My people did not listen to Me; Israel did not obey Me. So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own plans."

Luke 1:38~ "'I am the Lord's slave,' said Mary. 'May it be done to me according to your word.' Then the angel left her."

Day 7: Worshiping in stillness; Jesus often retreated in His earthly ministry to just go and be still and worship through that stillness. Stillness is an assurance and calmness of a soul that knows God is sovereign and in total control, no matter the situation.

Isaiah 30:15~ "For the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, has said: 'You will be delivered by returning and resting; your strength will lie in quiet confidence. But you are not willing.'"

Day 8: Worshiping in waiting; Our worship to God is often tested in whether we can wait on Him or not.

"Waiting for God is not laziness. Waiting for God is not going to sleep. Waiting for God is not the abandonment of effort. Waiting for God means, first, activity under command; second, readiness for any new command that may come; third, the ability to do nothing until the command is given."
-G. Campbell Morgan

Job 23:10~ "Yet He knows the way I have taken; when He has tested me, I will emerge as pure gold."

Habakkuk 2:3~ "For the vision is yet for the appointed time; it testifies about the end and will not lie. Though it delays, wait for it, since it will certainly come and not be late."

This is the lesson I taught on this past Sunday and thought it was worth sharing. I'm very thankful God laid this on my heart, because if it didn't speak to anyone else, it definitely spoke to me. This devotional was actually a 12-day devotional on the Bible app, but I only chose to include the first eight days. I would most definitely recommend this devotional to anyone! It changes your outlook on worship and really biblically demonstrates how to live out a life of true worship to Christ.

love always,

Iz💛💛
